Introduction
Tentacle Technology™ is a cutting edge technology company in the computer memory business. We have just announced our MXT technology this summer, which can make your computer seem as though it has twice the amount of memory.
The new Memory eXpansion Technology uses a chip to code and compress data passing from the processor to the RAM; the data then takes up half the space it normally does, and frequently used data is stored in a new cache area.
MXT will initially be available to our UK market, but we’re hoping to be able to bring this technology to the rest of the world very soon. Previous memory compression software used the processor to manipulate the data, which would take away precious processor cycles. The MXT is hardware-based and not software-based, it is 10,000 times faster than old-style compression techniques.

DDR2 SDRAM
Tentacle Technology™, UK’s leading global supplier of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), is producing DDR2 SDRAM using advanced 90 nm process technology at our Coventry based facility. This state-of-the-art 90 nm process will enable Tentacle Technology™ to produce 512 Megabit DDR2 SDRAM devices, for example, with an incredibly small chip size of 69.9 mm2, allowing more devices per wafer for increased unit output.
Memory eXpansion Technology (MXT)
Memory eXpansion Technology (MXT) is a hardware technology for compressing main memory contents. MXT effectively doubles the amount of memory. For example, 512 MB of installed memory appears as 1 GB. MXT is transparent to CPU, I/O devices, application software and device drivers: no software changes are needed.
Simply put, MXT buys you price/performance. You can either cut your memory costs by half. Or you can increase performance since with MXT the effective memory size is typically twice the installed memory size.
History
Tentacle Technology™ was founded on April 1st, 1978. The company has several factories across the UK, the main one based in Coventry. The founders, two Computer Science students from London called John McQueen and Steve Lennon, are still running the company at the head office in Coventry.
During the years of the company our main goal has always been to produce the best computer memory technologies available. With our revolutionizing ways of business, we have literally changed the way the computer memory business runs. In tight competition with IBM for the MXT technology, we have time and time again proved that even though we are relatively unknown, we can compete on a large scale.
